Summer Fun

It's summertime which means fun, right? I'm not so sure. Now that it's hot out, I want to get little B out to play, but I don't really know what to do. She get's super bored inside all day and needs ways to burn off some energy, but the heat can make it difficult to stay outside too long. Plus, I'm no good at coming up with fun activities for a 19-month old. So today's questions are:

~What do you do with your child(ren) for fun?
~How do you keep toddlers entertained?
~What outdoor activities are you willing to brave with kids?
~How do you get your child to come inside and settle down after being outside?
~What acitivies can kids do that are also fun for mom?

We get a zoo pass and hit the crazy zone every 1 to 2 weeks during the warm seasons. The trick is to get there right when the gates open. It isn't as hot or crowded.
The other thing to invest in during the summer is one of those cheap plastic wading pools, you can find them for $5. Then get some black plastic to cover it, the water will be bug free and warm when your kiddo is ready to play.

Going to the pool really stresses me out because it is too hard to watch a 3 and a 1 year old by myself. So we got a water table this summer. It has been really nice- I can send them outside even when it's super hot and not worry about anyone drowning. I usually sit by the window inside and read a book while they play.
Also, we've been going on lots of picnics. On days when the kids are antsy and need to get out I'll pack some sandwiches and head over to a park with lots of shade. My favorite part is that I don't have to sweep the floor afterwards!

One of my favorite things to do with my kids is to turn on the sprinkler in the backyard and let them run through it! We have one of the "rainbow" sprinklers (at least that is what Ryker calls it) that goes back and forth. Otter pops are awesome because they cool the kids off and they are way cheap! The library is one of my fav places too...free books and movies!! We go once a week :) Walks to the park in the morning or in the evening are awesome when it is not too hot. I know it takes longer but it is fun to let the kids right their little bikes...they feel so big! I am also big on coloring...my kids love to color in coloring books and also love to color on plain paper. Aleah isn't so hot at drawing yet so I will draw something for her or you can go online and print off coloring pages. This is one of my favorite sites http://disney.go.com/magicartist/coloring/

Here are some of my most favorite things to do with my kids:

1) get out our dinky little swimming pool, $5 garage sale slide, and any other toy I can find in the garage (bikes, scooters, etc.) and pull out a big blanket and plop down with crackers and fruit snacks. We'll be outside just "bumming around" for a good two hours. Then go in for much needed naps.

2) library (every tues and thurs at 10:15am is reading hour)

3) walmart for groceries, then chicken nuggets and diet coke (for mom) on the way out.

4) liberty park (they have the coolest water park...it's a web of water gutters with balls in them! and it's free!)....oh and they have the Aviary you can do for a few bucks.

5) davis county recreation center

6) yogi berry for a cool, delicious snack and cartoons!

I gave my daughter a bucket and a cheap paint brush, filled the bucket with water and she "paints" the sidewalk. It never seems to get boring. The heat dries the water up so there is an endless canvas to "paint" on.
