I have taken a six week parenting course in Love and Logic and I (mostly) love it! There are a few things about it that I don't love, but the underlying principles have really worked for us and our four kids. Just last night I was talking to my husband about our 3 year old who was kind of driving me crazy, and the conclusion I came to about how to help her is to give her tons of choices, a principle of Love and Logic. I highly recommend learning about it, then fitting some of the principles into how you do things. You don't have to follow it completely by the book, but I think it is really helpful!
I haven't read any of the Love and Logic books, but I've recently started to use choices with my 21 month old. I've tried to mimic my sisters parenting style (see above comment)to follow the basic principles Love and Logic teaches. I have already found it very effective because it enables my daughter to feel as though she has a say in what she does, while still doing what I want/need her to do!
I liked the book and most of its principles. It has been very helpful with my 2 1/2 year old. I think it is worth it to read the book(s) and see how you like it. Implement things you like, bag the rest.

I've heard the term before, but I don't know enough about it to have an opinion.
